What is a hash (TXID) of a transaction?
TXID (Transaction ID, transaction hash) is a unique identifier of a cryptocurrency transaction — a kind of “passport” of the transfer that allows it to be accurately identified and verified on the blockchain of a specific cryptocurrency.
What a TXID is:
- a unique sequence of alphanumeric characters;
- automatically assigned to every cryptocurrency transaction;
- cannot be changed or forged once recorded on the blockchain;
- allows tracking the transaction status in a public ledger.
When a TXID is used:
- when a transaction confirmation is delayed;
- if funds have not been credited to the recipient’s wallet;
- to check the number of network confirmations;
- when contacting the support service of an exchange or platform.
Why you should check a transaction status:
- to verify whether the transaction was broadcast to the network;
- to confirm if it has been validated by miners or validators;
- to determine the current processing stage of the transfer;
- to rule out technical issues or network delays.
How to check a TXID:
To track the transaction status, use dedicated blockchain explorers that display full transaction details, including the amount, sender and recipient addresses, number of confirmations, and the current status of the transaction.
